Engineering Intern
Technical Qualifications
The candidate for this position should have the following minimum qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a BS degree in an engineering field such as product design, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering at a four year university.
- Working knowledge of a commercial 3D Cad package.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational skills, determining time to completion, juggling multiple tasks concurrently and delivering results on time.
Desired Qualifications
- BS degree in an engineering field such as product design, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering.
- Background in engineering analysis for thermal and structural problems. Experience with commercial FEA or CFD codes.
- Experience with product development.
- Working knowledge of ProE, SolidWorks and MS Project.
- Experience using programmable logic controllers and data acquisition systems to test prototypes.
Roles and responsibilities
Engineering Interns are accountable for performing the following tasks:
- Research:
- a. Examine existing products to learn and document architecture and components used.
- b. Research components from different suppliers to select optimum models based on price and performance.
- c. Manage vendors to get pricing, specifications and parts.
- Testing:
- Create, execute and document experiments in order to verify designs.
- Design and/or procure required test fixtures and equipment and learn how to use them.
- Design:
- Design mechanical, fluidics and opto-mechanical components under the supervision of senior staff.
- Create requirement documents and specifications to communicate design intent to other vendors or consultants.
- Tracking:
- Track work achieved and dollars spent against established budgets and schedules to ensure assignments are on track and take corrective action when required.
